Amiri Baraka, a dramatist, poet, essayist, orator and fiction writer, is one of the preeminent African American literary figures of our time. Baraka’s work has taken him from the Beat Period of the 1950s to an Obie Award for his first play DUTCHMAN and the founding of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s.
