Harlem Children’s Zone Young Professionals Rooftop Fundraiser

President Obama has heralded the Harlem Children’s Zone as the conceptual foundation for his anti-poverty program and has vowed to replicate the HCZ model in 20 cities across America (video).

A fundraiser for the Harlem Children’s Zone is being held Saturday, July 18 at 3 PM. There will be an Open Beer and Wine Bar, accompanied with hors d’oeuvres. The organizers are asking for a suggested donation of $100 (where the minimum donation to attend the event is $65). The donation is tax deductible and proceeds will cover the cost of a full uniform for a Harlem Gems’ student and will partially subsidize the costs of healthcare services and literacy technology.

The Harlem Children’s Zone is literally changing the fabric of an entire community, providing a host of programs that serve over 10,000 kids and 6,000 adults. Programs include 2 charter schools (pre-K through high school), a baby college for pregnant parents, foster care and prevention services,health intiatives focused on asthma and obesity, a college success office and an employment & technology center for the Harlem community.
