Around-NYC.com — Phase II Begins
We’ve been working on AroundHarlem.com for awhile. Believe it or not, this blog is just a tip of the iceberg.
We started out on MySpace to build our brand, test the waters, get reader feedback etc. (Click here to become our friend if you’re not.) Click here to read more about some of our goals and here to check out our future editorial calendar.
One of the biggest challenges has been finding software that would meet our needs without actually building it ourselves. This quest continues, but as more and more people move to the web, better solutions are being built. I’m very please to have found a platform that will help us grow and accomplish many of our goals.
The initial goal of sharing the voices of Black people and other people of color through arts and culture by highlighting events has been accomplished with our blog. However, we have been overwhelmed by the information sent to us and have sometimes been able to include it on the blog.
Starting today, we are unveiling
Phase II of the project — Around-NYC.com.
One of the great things about the new website is that members will be able to add events to the events section themselves. The event calendar will contain events from the five boroughs.
Also, we’ve literally answered hundreds of questions on MySpace about Harlem and NYC. The great thing about the new website is that it will allow our readers to see our communications with other members. We’ll be setting up an Ask & Answer section in the future to continue communication.
Around-NYC.com will also our readers to communicate with each other. If you take a glimpse now, you’ll notice some of the new features. However, the site is by no means complete, so check back for updates on a regular basis.
Finally, what I think is the best thing about the new calendar (I know I’m biased…LOL) is that you can select events by date and “virtually RSVP” your favorites so that when you want to do something, just check Around-NYC.com for preselected events that you’ve reviewed in the past.
We will be adding new events to the calendar daily so be sure to check back frequently.

Note: Keep e-mailing us your event info. We’ll be featuring events on this blog as well as doing more actual event review in the future.
