A Look Back — 3rd Annual Wendell Niles and Friends Toy Drive in Harlem

| January 3, 2009 | 0 Comments

The December 19th snowstorm could not keep away the loyal supporters who braved the inclement weather to attend the 3rd Annual Wendell Niles and Friends Toy Drive. More than 30 dedicated supporters trucked their way through the bitter cold, snow and sleet with shopping bags full of toys, games, clothing, books and music cd’s. They came from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queen and Long Island to give their support to a worthy cause.

“All three toys drives are special, but this one is closest to my heart. We were blessed with beautiful white snow, an intimate crowd and inspiring stories about giving and during Christmas. It took me back to the days when Christmas was more about giving thanks and serving the less fortunate,” states Wendell Niles, the toy drive founder and President of Niles Advertising.

The Toy Drive Reception was sponsored by Will Brown, President of Brown Companies and Associates, a Harlem-based Real Estate and Insurance Brokerage firm. This year’s recipient was chosen by Wendell Niles and the members of the Business Owners Ministry of Abyssinian Baptist Church.

Ten shopping bags filled with everything from clothing to toys and games are being donated to the Annie G. Newsome Head Start Program, a Harlem-based head start program that provides pre-school age children with early childhood education, socialization skills, nutrition, medical, dental and developmental screenings and a full range of early intervention services. The award-winning Annie G. Newsome Head Start Program is sponsored by the Abyssinian Development Corp.
