The Exhibit

To correspond with the recent release of Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta, The powerHouse Arena is pleased to present an exhibition of work by the photographer Ed Kashi. In the form of “film strips,” ranging in sizes of up to 24 inches wide by 168 inches long, this format is a new visual context for examining the impact of oil exploitation in Nigeria.

A Look Back — Harlem 4 Obama Watch Party

In several locations throughout the city, large crowds cheered Barack Obama’s acceptance speech.

New Yorkers from all boroughs gathered in the heart of Harlem Thursday night to watch Barack Obama accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

The group Harlem 4 Obama hosted a speech-watching party for some 200 supporters at the Tribal Spears Gallery Cafe on Frederick Douglass Blvd. between 116th and 117th Sts.

SOUL SLAM centers around a battle between two of the most eclectic and innovative artists to date, Michael Jackson and Prince! From the inception of this concept back in 1999 the response for SOUL SLAM has been enormous. This event turns into a DJ battle with one DJ, DJ Spinna and an audience of hardcore MJ and Prince fans. DJ Spinna sets the tone of this event as he lays down track after track from both MJ’s and Princes extensive music catalogues along with tracks of their cohorts.
